Poster sessions are lively, engaging sessions promoting the exchange of new research findings in a visual format. More than 300 presenters discuss their findings with colleagues in two posters sessions. These interactive sessions provide an opportunity to interact face-to-face with researchers, to ask questions, discuss findings and share information.
The submission deadline for research posters is Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017. Submit your poster abstracts on anxiety and depression, including generalized anxiety disorder, OCD, PTSD, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, phobias, and related disorders in adults and children.

Administering a commonly available hormone via a nasal spray could help prevent the development of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and reduce symptoms in those who already have the condition, results of several clinical studies suggest. Intranasal oxytocin significantly reduced the likelihood of the development of PTSD among patients in an emergency department (ED) who had a high degree of baseline trauma symptoms, said Miranda Olff, PhD, Department of Psychiatry, Academic Medical Center, University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

What makes alcoholics drink? New research has found that in both men and women with alcohol dependence, the major factor predicting the amount of drinking seems to be a question of immediate mood. Surprisingly men with a history of depression were drinking less often than men who were not depressed. This probably means that alcohol treatment needs to be individually tailored.

After seven years of struggling to launch the first government-approved study of marijuana's effects on veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, lead researcher Sue Sisley was optimistic in February, when her team was finally allowed to start enrolling veterans to participate.
Seven months later, though, Sisley has screened thousands of veterans, yet enrolled only 26 who meet the eligibility criteria – prompting concern the study's parameters must change. If that happens, the study could be delayed, Sisley said.

Researchers writing in JAMA Psychiatry examined 29 randomized controlled trials comprising over 10,000 patients from 11 countries, and found a small, but significant benefit from psychological and/or educational interventions on anxiety prevention compared to usual care.

Since this disorder correlates the mind and body, its treatment also involves remedial measures from both medical and psychological fields.
