On Friday, Jan. 27, NJ Architect Jerome Leslie Eben, FAIA, was sorting his thoughts in preparation of sharing his passion with more than 50 students at the 7th annual Pacific Cascade Middle School Career Fair in Issaquah, WA. Jerry had flown across the country from his home in West Orange, NJ, to Issaquah, WA, to share this very special event with his grandson, Alex Kernish.

The partners and staff of Rothe-Johnson-Fantacone, the former architectural firm he co founded in 1974, are deeply saddened by the passing of Allan R. Johnson, AIA. A former resident of Holmdel and Morris Township, NJ, he died December 31, 2016, after suffering a stroke at his home in Louisville, KY. Funeral services were held in Lexington, KY, on January 7, 2017.

A Downtown woman who has worked as a professional urban planner and architect for nearly two decades will be Jersey City's new planning director.
Annisia Cialone, who lives in the Hamilton Park neighborhood, will replace Bob Cotter, the longtime city planner who retired last year. Cialone's salary is set by city ordinance at roughly $105,000.

And so I routinely find myself leaning down to inspect a rusty hatch that leads down into the depths of the earth, almost hidden amid crumbling concrete shrouded by ivy.
Old nuclear bunkers that haven't been repurposed normally have an eerie, abandoned feel. They are largely neglected and invisible to all except those who seek them out. As the history of British civil defence is slowly forgotten, we have literally attempted to bury the physical traces of our old fears of the Eastern Bloc."

Architecture students have long groaned (or bragged) about the long hours and all-night work sessions demanded by their chosen major. Surely, we've all thought, no other major must be working this hard — right?
Now, thanks to the results of Indiana University's National 2016 Study of Student Engagement (NSSE), those assertions have been backed up with some numbers: architecture students were found to work an average of 22.2 hours per week, more than 2.5 hours more than any other major.
