What a terrible winter this has been for everyone in about 70 percent of the U.S. I know that in my area we suffered through many days of minus degree weather and lots of snow. With the first warm days of Spring now finally here, I'm looking forward to enjoying sitting outside and taking in the nice weather.

It's also a time for some Spring cleaning within and outside of the office. Like perhaps many of you, I have a pile of papers on my desk that have built up into a small replica of Mount St. Helens and I'm finally going to file them away. I'm also just going to take everything off of my desk and other flat services in my office, give the place a good cleaning, open up the windows and get some fresh air.

Spring is also a time to get myself active again. The long and cold winter days have a tendency to make my body sedentary and so I'm looking forward to stretching my legs and getting active again. It's all about keeping a sense of balance in life and having good weather greatly contributes to this idea.

FTC: Identity theft again leads US top fraud complaints
The seemingly intractable problem of identity theft led the list of top consumer complaints once again in 2013, with U.S. consumers reporting that they lost over $1.6 billion to various types of fraud, the Federal Trade Commission said in a report. While identity fraud was the top source of consumer complaints at 14 percent in 2013, debt collection — at 10 percent — was second. Complaints were such things as a collector either tried to collect a debt that was not owed, harassed a debtor or made false statements about debt.

Simple business courtesy tips that can make you or break you

Over the many years that I've been in business, like yourselves, we have observed some people who just have a special gift for establishing and maintaining good relations. It's not so much one thing in particular but several small things that taken together make them stand out. Here are several business courtesy do's and don'ts that I have observed from others. Myself included, we are all a work in progress and these tips, which are far from all inclusive, are for your thoughts and consideration.
