ARSA Requests ICR Approval Withdrawal
On Feb. 3, ARSA sent a letter to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs asking it to withdraw generic approval of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) information collection request. The approval gives the FAA unfettered authority to require reporting through Airworthiness Directives, contrary to Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) requirements and established Office of Management and Budget standards.

FAA, EASA Release MAG Revision
On Jan. 29, 2014, the fourth revision to the Maintenance Annex Guidance (MAG) was released. The MAG, originally issued on May 3, 2011, provides detailed guidance for FAA-certificated repair stations located in the U.S. to obtain an EASA certificate (and vice versa) under the US/EU Aviation Safety Agreement.

TSA Begins Foreign Repair Station Security Audits
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is delivering questionnaires to FAA certificated part 145 repair stations operating outside the United States. The survey is part of the security review and audit process mandated by Congress to occur within six months of TSA finalizing the aircraft repair station security rule.

Singapore Raises Inspection of Indian Planes After FAA Downgrade

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore has stepped up ramp inspections on Indian carriers' aircraft operating in the city state, the regulator said in an e-mailed statement today. The authority hasn't imposed any restrictions on Indian carriers, it said.

Avianca Temporarily Grounds Fokker 50 Fleet

The Colombian airline cited "a malfunction on one of the engines of a Fokker 50 covering the Cali-Tumaco route" discovered prior to takeoff on Jan. 28. Avianca said in a statement that it has performed "all the proper inspections and [gone] through all the safety procedures," and decided it was prudent to ground the F-50s.
