More of the Same: Government Report Criticizes Foreign Oversight
On July 16, the DOT Inspector General issued a report criticizing FAA oversight of foreign repair stations in the European Union. The report — with its old, familiar and incomplete reasoning — underscores the need for the maintenance community to remain vigilant against threats to international agreements as well as the global aviation community.

Boeing Report Foresees Unprecedented Demand for New Technicians
On July 20, Boeing released its 2015 Pilot and Technician Outlook. The report forecasts the global commercial aviation industry will need more than one million new workers — 558,000 pilots and 609,000 maintenance technicians — to meet unprecedented demand between now and 2034.

On July 15, the FAA released draft Order 8120.16A entitled "Suspected Unapproved Parts (SUP) Program," which would cancel current Order 8120.16, "Processing Reports of Suspected Unapproved Parts."

Lufthansa Technik Set To Open New MRO Base in Puerto Rico

Lufthansa Technik will accept the first customer aircraft at its new maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Puerto Rico on July 21, bringing the promise of billions of dollars in long-term economic impact to the financially troubled U.S. territory.
