Industry Still Fighting for Right to Surrender
On Aug. 31, a coalition of aviation trade associations continued its efforts to reinstate the right of repair stations to voluntarily surrender their certificates.

Heico Reports Record Profit, Aided By Acquisitions

Building on a string of acquisitions, aircraft parts maker Heico Corp. reported record profit for the quarter ended July 31. Heico said net income for the quarter reached $34.4 million, up 3 percent, from the same period last year.

Aerial Dog Fences Can't Be Counted On to Curb Wayward Drones

Similar to how electronic fences zap dogs to keep them within boundaries, the fence-in-the-sky uses global-positioning systems to mark no-fly zones for drones. Geo-fence technology can be overridden and it won't work on older or cheaper models, education campaigns haven't seemed to work so far and catching violators has proven almost impossible.

Research by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that aerospace manufacturing employment has been on the steady decline since 2012. Over the past three years, in fact, total employment has dropped from 498,600 to 479,900.
