ARSA on FAA Extension: Time is Not on Our Side
Daniel B. Fisher, ARSA’s vice president of legislative affairs, issued the following statement in response to Congress’ extension of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012. The agency’s authorization, which was set to expire on Sept. 30, has been extended six months during which lawmakers hope to work out the “transformational” reauthorization package envisioned by congressional leaders.

Final Rule on Production Certificates and Approvals Published
The association is pleased to see that the agency released the final rule which will allow production approval holders (PAHs) to issue FAA Form 8130-3s instead of requiring an FAA designee’s signature. The amended language in § 21.137 (creating paragraph (o)) allows for a PAH to issue an authorized release for aircraft engines, propellers and articles.

National Air and Space Museum Expands Educational Program with GE Aviation Sponsorship

The Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum has received a $5 million sponsorship from GE Aviation to expand its “Explainers” program over the next five years. Explainers are high school and college students who perform educational demonstrations in museum galleries and assist with events, such as family days.

FAA Activities Continue as Congress Averts Shutdown

Just hours before the current government funding was set to expire, the House and Senate approved a bill to extend funding through Dec. 11.
