U.S. construction spending edged up in November as a gain in home building helped offset weakness in nonresidential construction.
The Commerce Department said Friday that construction spending rose 0.8 percent in November after a 0.1 percent gain in October and a 1.8 percent fall in September.

Certain job tasks may expose construction workers to silica dust at levels more than 10 times the permissible exposure limit set by OSHA, according to the results of a recent study.
Researchers from the Department of Public Health at the University of Massachusetts Lowell collected 51 personal breathing-zone samples from workers at demolition, crushing and bridge repair sites in Massachusetts. Another 33 “area samples” were taken near demolition or crushing sites to determine possible exposure to bystanders.
