AWDI is set re-launch Certified Exterior Contractor Program where siding would be combined with fenestration to grandfather value-added credentials for all exterior work.
In this climate backlogs of jobs will be problematic and as such expanding the labor pool would be of benefit to all. Back in 2002, AWDI used the Society of Plastics program (Now VSI) to add a manual and written test to complement the AWDI window certification. Today, VSI has identified and “certified” siding contractors. These professionals, well qualified with siding and trim expertise, would make great window and door replacement support contractors. While they may not be fully versed in all phases of specification, assessment, measurement, removal, opening preparation and product installation. AWDI,, through its WIXSYS Program already serves many of the VSI manufacturers.
AWDI will issue Certification to siding contractors identified by the VSI credential, and offer to award them certification. They will be promoted on our website, and all dealers will be made aware of the “pool” in their area so that they can contact them to hire. The cost of this program will be mainly for materials and resources. There is one-time $79.00 signup fee to get the materials and access. As long as the siding contractor is in the program, there is no additional fee. The fee is per contractor and the support will only be for that individual. Look for more information May 15.

The two things are not mutually exclusive, of course. Plenty of homes use energy considerations to not only lower the cost of living, but to drive the design itself.

Why are those at the helm of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) continuing to roll back key environmental and public-health regulations? Why are they making it harder for themselves — and future administrations — to craft new regulations based on all of the available research? And why, in their actions, do they continue to challenge the place of rigorous evidence in policymaking?

Business had dried up for DeForest’s Degnan Design-Build-Remodel with the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak and Gov. Tony Evers’ Safer at Home order. For a stretch, incoming phone calls were few and far between. Then, a couple of weeks ago, it picked up again, and the phone started ringing off the hook.

The toxin has been buried for years. Across the country, lead pipes are still carrying water into millions of homes, more than 30 years after they were banned. They're tucked underground, out of sight and, for most Americans, out of mind, relics of an earlier time. But these aging conduits are still a risk for tens of millions of people.
