On July 14, 2010, EPA made the following announcement: "The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is pleased to announce the beginning of a criteria revision for windows, doors and skylights. EPA, in consultation with the U.S. Department of Energy, is considering establishing installation procedures to ensure product performance." While the industry is used to continuing improvement in window and door product performance, it was the first time any government entity wanted installation included as a separate and distinct regulated component along with the measurement of product performance. And, much like the addition of Lead Safe RRP rules included in remodeling, it took the industry by surprise. Government agencies were now reaching out to window product installation.

Existing home sales bounced up at the highest pace in nearly six years in May, resuming improvement in the housing market after an unexpected decline in April.
Sales rose 5.1 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.35 million preconstructed homes, condos and co-ops last month, up from April's 5.09 million, the National Association of Realtors said recently.
