Study shows replacement window dealers who think consumers worry about products and price or being ripped off are missing the boat. Consumers have done their homework and are looking for something else.
Homeowners worry about whether they will be able to find a window dealer who’s competent specifying, measuring, removing and installing their new window – and the most popular consumer vetting services, like BBB, Angie’s List, HomeAdvisor, etc. never check those contractor skills or competencies.
AWDI did a study among more than 2,000 homeowners who replaced their windows and found more than 50 percent of all window purchase decisions were based on third-party credentials and endorsements. Equally telling, not one mentioned BBB, Angie’s list, Home Advisor or any other contractor reference service.
The only reference consumers used regularly was Consumer Reports Magazine. Thirty-one percent indicated Consumer Reports' advice was the most important advice they got. And that advice was not about business acumen or product performance, but about core competency in doing their job right.
The dealers who truly are able to differentiate themselves from their “me-too” competitors do it by promoting the service they perform – not the products they provide. And it shows in their increased closing rates, profits and satisfied customers.
AWDI and MarketSharp are presenting a FREE Webinar on Aug. 24 to share the techniques and strategies these dealers use to successfully differentiate themselves in their marketplace.

This multilayered window trend has begun to grow in Nordic countries where the climate is significantly colder; hence, building insulation needs to be of maximum efficiency. Think of window glazing in terms of men's razors: the more blades, the better the shave; the more panes, the warmer the interior.

The monthly PPI for flat glass in the commodity category was down a slight 0.1 percent after staying flat in June. Those prices were up just 0.3 percent from a year ago and continue to level out on year-over-year basis.

Although it has fluctuated somewhat in recent months, consumer confidence remains strong. Reports of continued economic and employment growth have helped sustain consumers' positive outlook about their current and near-term financial well-being. Consequently, consumer spending and borrowing are on the rise. Normally, that would translate into more consumers entering the housing market. At present, however, the trend is going the other way.

Contractors have to be ready for surprises, but they aren’t necessarily fans of them — especially ones that require extra work and may lead to fines. Surprises that involve the federal government? You can stop there.
It’s enough of a hassle to bid on jobs and manage schedules, budgets and subcontractors — even with the aid of good construction management software — without being interrupted by a Department of Labor auditor or safety inspector who wants to take up your time and make you dig up records from years past.

As a brand, you have the opportunity to cut through the noise and reach audiences by telling an authentic story.
