Most of us are familiar with trademarks and service marks but a certification mark is very different and meaningful. A certification mark is a special creature created for a purpose uniquely different from that of an ordinary service mark or trademark. The placing of the mark on goods, or its use in connection with services, thus constitutes a certification that the prescribed characteristics or qualifications of the certifier for those services have been met. A certification mark, therefore, may only be used to certify that the work or labor on the goods or services was performed by a person who meets certain standards and tests of competency set by the certifier.
For AWDI certified installers, the AWDI certification mark singles out those who have proven their competency and who commit to delivering the promised performance of the window and door product in the home.
The AWDI certification mark is the first and only such mark in existence in the window and door industry for installation. As such it is a perfect symbol to use for differentiation from all the other “me-too” contractors.
AWDI and MarketSharp are presenting a FREE Webinar tomorrow, Aug. 24, to share this and all the other techniques and strategies dealers use to successfully differentiate in their marketplace.

Construction Dive
After a few legal fits and starts, as well as extra time for review and input, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s new silica standard for construction is scheduled to go into effect about a month from now, on Sept. 23.
What that means is contractors who engage in activities that create silica dust — that is, respirable crystalline silica — such as by cutting, grinding or blasting materials like concrete, stone and brick, must meet a stricter standard for how much of that dust workers inhale. The same goes for employers of tradespeople working around such activities.
