The final damage estimates are still being calculated, but there’s little doubt the clean up after Harvey will be massive.
The storm made its initial landfall Aug. 25 on the Texas Gulf Coast as a Category 4 hurricane, and in the early hours of Aug. 30 made a second landfall as a tropical storm. Pounding Texas with more than 50 inches of rain, the National Weather Service says Harvey has set a preliminary record for the most rainfall measured from a single storm in the continental U.S. Although FEMA, state and local procurement offices have likely reached out to the already-registered contractors it knows that can do this type of work, the level of needs will probably prompt these agencies to cast a wide net for available contractors.
