DOE Seeks to Increase Adoption of Energy-Saving Triple-Pane (R-5) Windows

From July 13: Windows are essential elements of most buildings, but can be among the most energy-wasting parts of a home. Although they constitute only 10% of the surface area of a typical home, they can account for 30-40% of the heat loss in winter. To address this issue, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is working to increase adoption of next-generation triple-pane windows, which will help homeowners conserve energy, reduce noise, and lower home energy bills.
Though still in draft form, ENERGY STAR Version 7.0 proposes higher performance requirements for residential windows, which could be achieved with a triple-pane window design.

From May 18: KKR, a leading global investment firm, today announced the signing of an agreement to sell C.H.I. Overhead Doors, a leader in the garage door industry, to Nucor Corporation in a transaction valued at $3.0 billion. The sale will represent one of KKR’s largest returns in recent history, at 10 times the original equity invested, inclusive of distributions. All C.H.I. employees will receive a substantial cash payout on their equity in the Company.
