PharmPAC Needs YOU
AzPA
The Pharmacists Political Action Committee of Arizona, is a nonpartisan voluntary committee that combines contributions from pharmacists — like you — to support specified pieces of legislation that will help advance pharmacy patient-centered care. This 2015 legislation session, the Arizona Pharmacy Association's PharmPAC needs your help to support Medication Synchronization. This bill will remove current insurance barriers and enable patients to synchronize their medications — order and receive prescriptions on the same day each month. We need your help.

Diversion problems: Acknowledging the issue
By Jason Poquette
Virtually every pharmacist understands the magnitude of the drug diversion problem in the U.S. We see glimpses of it almost every day on a small scale, but these sorts of events are rather bland and commonplace. What's truly troubling is that we see nearly daily news events about the discoveries of drug diversion going inside the pharmacy on the one hand, and the equally disturbing number of burglaries and robberies by addicts and dealers on the other.

Medicare's star ratings bring opportunity for pharmacists
ASHP
The extra weight that Medicare applies to the medication-adherence measures in its quality-rating system for health plans means opportunity and a revenue stream for at least one group of pharmacists.
Medicare's star ratings system incorporates three measures of medication adherence. All three were developed and are maintained by the Pharmacy Quality Alliance, which has over 100 member organizations, including ASHP.
Report suggests trend in prescription drug errors filled by pharmacists
WBZ-TV
Anyone who has waited in a drug store for a prescription knows a pharmacy counter can be a busy place.
"It's a high-pace, high-stress environment," a former CVS pharmacy technician told the I-Team.
She did not want to be identified, but she believes that stress leads to mistakes.
"Somebody gets the wrong strength of medication, somebody gets the wrong number of pills," she said.

Cranberry extract for recurrent urinary tract infections
Pharmacy Times
Roughly half of all women experience at least one urinary tract infection in their lifetime. The problem becomes recurrent for many, so effective non-antibiotic preventive therapies are needed.
Cranberries, cranberry juice and cranberry extracts have a reputation of helping to prevent recurrent UTIs, defined as two or three experienced within one year. However, clinical studies addressing all forms of cranberry have reported mixed results.

The future of community pharmacy
ModernMedicine
Truman Lastinger recently posed the question "Is community pharmacy a dying profession?" Here is how Mark Jacobs, registered pharmacist living and working in Wisconsin, would answer him.
As a profession, we worry too much about that elusive provider status. Charlie Brown kept trying to kick the football, to no avail. In the pharmacy profession, we are not that much different. We have been talking about clinical pharmacy and pharmacist services for 20 to 25 years now. Maybe more.
