Edmonton food bank tastes success at heritage festival
Food is a big part of the Servus Edmonton Heritage Festival. Over the long weekend, more than 360,000 people packed Hawrelak Park to sample the sights, sounds and tastes of 85 different cultures. The event is also a major fundraiser for the food bank. Marjorie Bencz, executive director of the Edmonton Food Bank, said this year's drive already looked to be the most successful ever.
Agricultural ambassador CNE bound

Amanda Gill counts herself lucky to have grown up on a farm. "It really taught me a lot about respect and work," said the 23-year-old Niagara College educational assistant student. Gill was named the Niagara Regional Exhibition's youth ambassador in 2013, and again in 2014, marking a return for the title that had gone unnamed for years before. "I understand what it means to be here for chores everyday," said Gill, who will head to Toronto for the Canadian National Exhibition to compete for the title of CNE ambassador.

Peterborough Agricultural Society brings Boomshakalaka the bull to City Hall to launch Peterborough Exhibition

If you thought you saw a 1,600-pound black bull on the steps of City Hall recently, your eyes didn't deceive you. Boomshakalaka, a 16-month-old Simmental bull from Indian River Cattle Company, made his guest appearance as part of the Peterborough Ex's official launch. "I think it opens everybody's eyes up to see what we've got to offer at the exhibition," said Ryan Moore, Peterborough Agricultural Society president.
Alliston Potato Festival fairgrounds serve up fun and food
If thrills and games are your thing, the fairground is where you'll want to be. The fairground boasts the midway, games, flea market, and beer garden. It is also where the lawn tractor races, bingo and baby contest is held. You can also fuel up for all the fun at one of the food vendors offering a variety of delicious snacks.
One-third of CNE Ambassador contestants from Midwestern Ontario
There's about a 1 in 3 chance this year's CNE Ambassador of the Fairs will be from Midwestern Ontario. There are 76 ambassadors from across the province taking part in this year's competition. 26 of them represent fairs and exhibitions in Midwestern Ontario.
