FTC publishes list of banned debt collectors and actions against ARM firms

The Federal Trade Commission announced in a recent blog post that it has published a list of debt collection agencies and individuals that are banned from practicing in the ARM space as a consequence of enforcement actions. The post also pointed to a comprehensive list of past enforcements in the debt collection industry, many of which do not include bans. "There's the 'A List,' and then there's the 'D List,'" the post begins. "I know which one I don't want to be on. Now the FTC has its own version of the 'D List' — its list of banned debt collectors."

RadioShack gets court approval for interim bankruptcy loan

Bankrupt electronics retailer RadioShack Corp. recently got court approval to borrow $10 million to support its operations until it opens the bidding this month for its best-performing stores. RadioShack, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy recently, has an initial deal to sell as many as 2,400 of its 4,100 stores to an affiliate of hedge fund Standard General, one of the lenders and its largest shareholder. But that agreement is subject to higher bids.

Firm that vetted Snowden files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Altegrity Inc., owner of the company that carried out background checks on former NSA contractor Edward Snowden and Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection recently as it implements a restructuring deal with its lenders. Altegrity, which owns USIS Investigations Services, listed assets and liabilities of more than $1 billion, according to court documents.
