CN Rail, Agrium reach 52 week high

The second company to make the 52 week high list was Canadian National Railway. The stock hit a new peak of $96.20, before closing at $95.55, for an increase of 1 per cent. The railway company said its profit increased to $610 million in the fourth quarter, or $1.41 per diluted share, with record revenue and carloads. More

The bill to create the Fair Rail Freight Service Act was introduced to give companies that ship goods by rail the right to a service agreement with railways. It will also create an arbitration process to establish an agreement when commercial negotiations fail. This announcement fulfills a key commitment following the recommendations made by the Rail Freight Service Review Panel in 2011. More

The province's Liberal Party says declining traffic and a lack of funding for CN Rail is jeopardizing the future of a rail service in northern New Brunswick. CN Railway is looking for $50 million from the New Brunswick government and other partners to maintain freight rail service in the northern part of the province. More

CP's diluted earnings per share, excluding significant items comprised of labour restructuring and asset impairment charges was $1.28. DHL predicts positive outlook for African air cargo industry

Schiphol's E-freight drive continues

The Dutch government's project to promote paperless air cargo through Schiphol airport has resulted in a five-fold increase in E-freight shipments through the Amsterdam Airport. The $1.6 million E-Freight project was launched in July 2010. In 2010, only 1,665 shipments were sent as paperless e-freight. By December 2012, the annual total had risen to 21,176. More

Federal promises to create a network of marine protected areas are progressing at a snail's pace, and there are fears that federal cutbacks will slow the process even further, says a report by the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society. Canada made a commitment in 2010 to protect at least 10 per cent of coastal and marine areas by 2020, but, with only one per cent protected so far, there is a long way to go, said Sabine Jessen, the conservation group's national oceans manager. The trial against Coastal Shipping Limited, a company that is owned by the Woodward Group Of Companies, was scheduled to last five days. But it was over on the first day of the trial, when the company pled guilty to two of three charges. The other charge was dropped. The trial stemmed from an incident that occurred on Sept. 19, 2009, in Gilbert Bay, located near Port Hope Simpson. More
