Rebuild Highway 75, says Manitoba Trucking Association

The Manitoba Trucking Association is calling on the provincial government to rebuild Highway 75 so it would not be affected by spring floods. The stretch of Highway 75 that runs between Winnipeg and Emerson has been shut down during past floods, including those in 2009 and 2011.

CN Railway profit hurt by winter weather chill

Canadian National Railway took a big winter weather hit, the country's largest rail operator said, on Monday, as extreme cold and heavy snow in Western Canada slowed operations and nipped into profits. CN said it has since turned the corner, returning to more efficient operations, but will bump up its capital spending plan by $100 million to $2 billion, to make its network more resilient and productive.
Why shipping oil by rail may not be a substitute for Keystone

The prospects for bringing large amounts of Canadian heavy crude oil into the United States by train is a contentious issue as the U.S. government weighs whether to allow the controversial Keystone XL pipeline to go ahead. An assumption that oil would move by rail without Keystone was a key part of a U.S. State Department report in March that found development of Canada's oil sands region will proceed at roughly the same rate, with or without the pipeline.

Low-cost Norwegian Air launches cargo company

Low-cost carrier Norwegian Air Shuttle is launching a stand-alone cargo company to exploit the growing capacity of its network as it expands the number of air routes it has around the world, the firm mentioned. The airline, which booked Europe's biggest ever aircraft order last year with the purchase of 222 short-haul jets from Boeing and Airbus, is opening new routes to Asia and North America.

GE Power Conversion books LNG ship, FSRU orders

GE's Power Conversion business announced it has been awarded new contracts for orders of electric power and propulsion systems on two liquid natural gas carriers and an LNG Floating Storage Regasification Unit. In total, GE has signed contracts to supply systems for 26 LNG carriers and five FSRUs. In the last six months alone, the company has signed contracts worth around $80 million.
