Canada's exports rose 1.3 percent in April, due mainly to higher exports of gold. Imports decreased 1.4%, mostly on lower imports of aircraft. As a result, Canada's merchandise trade deficit with the world narrowed from $2.3 billion in March to $966 million in April, the lowest deficit since October 2018.
In real (or volume) terms, exports were up 2.0 percent and imports fell 1.9 percent.

Canada has shipped the most wheat to China in 14 years, contrasting a sudden halt in canola trade amid a diplomatic dispute between the countries, as Chinese buyers shunned the United States.
China bought 1.5 million tonnes of wheat from Canada from August 2018 through April 2019, nearly double the pace a year earlier and the most since 2004-05, according to Canadian Grain Commission data.

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending June 8, 2019.
For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 513,099 carloads and intermodal units, down 8.5 percent compared with the same week last year.
Total carloads for the week ending June 8 were 246,758 carloads, down 9.1 percent compared with the same week in 2018, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 266,341 containers and trailers, down 8.0 percent compared to 2018.

This new requirement will come into force on June 12, 2021, and will replace paper-based daily logbooks. This requirement builds on the regulatory proposal that was published in Canada Gazette, Part I on December 16, 2017.

WestJet has renewed its ULD management partnership with Jettainer for another five-years, extending the contract two years before expiring.
The Canadian airline has grown significantly since the partnership started in 2015, including taking delivery of the first of 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners in January.
The number of containers and pallets to be controlled has been increased from around 350 to 2,000 units.

A new governing structure over the way airport slots are allocated and managed has been agreed upon by three industry associations. It is hoped that this arrangement will benefit passengers as air travel increases and more airports feel the pressure of demand. The agreement came at a meeting in Seoul, South Korea, and sees Airports Council International (ACI) World, the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and the Worldwide Airport Coordinators Group (WWACG) agreeing to the new structure for the Worldwide Slot Guidelines (WSG) — a set of standards published by IATA for the management of airport slots.

The Quebec Port Authority (QPA) has signed a long-term commercial agreement with Hutchison Ports and Canadian National Railway, to build and operate the new container terminal, known as project Laurentia.
Hutchison Ports was selected after a competitive process in which QPA invited the leading international port operators to provide proposals to participate in the project.
The agreement stipulates that Hutchison Ports will build the most environmentally and technologically advanced cargo-handling facility in North America, indicates a release.
