The federal agency says exports fell 5.1 percent to $50.3 billion, offsetting a strong gain in May amid a 3.6% drop in export prices.

The railroad industry has installed safety technology on nearly 90 percent of tracks where it is required, federal officials said, but "significant work" is needed to ensure the technology is completely installed by a December 2020 deadline.
Federal Railroad Administration chief Ronald Batory told a Senate committee that technology known as positive train control, or PTC, is in operation on more than 50,000 route miles (80,000 kilometres) of the nearly 58,000 miles (93,000 kilometres) where it is required.

U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) introduced legislation to address safety concerns regarding crude-by-rail transportation.
The Crude Oil Advanced Tracking Act would require railroads to share crude-by-rail information with state emergency responders so they know what risks they might face when trains carry crude oil travel through their communities.
The bill also would allocate $15 million in financial assistance for local emergency preparedness measures and $25 million in to support local projects that reduce risk or add protections in communities.

Work has now commenced on a string of upgrades to the airport — the most notable of which is the complete resurfacing of main runway 18/36. It is expected to reopen on Oct. 27.

he International Air Transport Association (IATA) released data for global air freight markets showing that demand, measured in freight tonne kilometers (FTKs), decreased by 4.8% in June 2019, compared to the same period in 2018. This marks the eighth consecutive month of year-on-year decline in freight volumes.
Signs of a modest recovery in recent months appear to have been premature, with the June contraction broad-based across all regions with the exception of Africa.
