Aviation tourism company Air Journey will soon have an impressive milestone to add to their 18 years' of expertise: the year 2016 will mark the company’s sixth escorted tour around the world.
Participating pilots will be able to fly their own private planes and their guests on a 66-day, 25,000-nm odyssey that includes visits to 24 different countries and islands.
For an individual private pilot, such a trip would not only be overwhelming, but nearly impossible, considering all the logistics. But as company founder Thierry Pouille explains, part of Air Journey's value to the private pilot is its ability to take care of these details. "We prearrange virtually everything — weather briefings, route planning charts, permits, customs, fuel stops, hotels, ground transportation, and more. Then we fly along, making sure that everything goes smoothly."

Canadian GA and business aircraft can again take shortcuts over U.S. airspace on their way to Canadian destinations. The FAA has amended a NOTAM issued a couple of weeks ago that made such overflights illegal without special security measures. As we reported last week, the NOTAM, apparently issued at the request of the TSA, cancelled the decades-long agreement between the two countries that allowed Canadian aircraft to transit U.S. airspace without security or Customs requirements.

According to author Tom Green: I am attempting to write a few short words about how it was when I was flying for the mission. I flew for the Mission 20 years, and then took the Operations Manager position for the Mission for another 16 years. There have been quite a few pilots who have flown for the Mission over the years, I was only one.

General Aviation News
According to author Jeb Burnside: One of my earliest aviation memories is of a family holiday trip from our home in Illinois to Florida, spending the season with not one, but two, grandmothers and relations.
Any Christmas dinner for 30 or so members of the same family won't be without its drama, and I'm sure that one didn’t surprise. But my memories of that December were more focused on the transportation: A Cessna 205 with an N-number ending 99Z.

Eight out of nine passengers, and the flight attendant, were throwing up — whether from the turbulence itself or from fear, I couldn't tell. We'd already been thrashing around for an hour and a half on what was ordinarily a 30-minute trip, rain pelting the windows as the flight captain and I struggled to make it through a thunderstorm. And then, as if to reinforce my guilt over letting us take off in the first place, we got struck by lightening.

Recently, Sea Rescue, a TV show produced by ABC, will showcase last winter's efforts by general aviation pilots to help relocate endangered sea turtles stranded on Massachusetts beaches. The program follows the journey of the "great turtle airlift," as GA pilots volunteer their time and their airplanes to help transport the turtles to facilities that can care for them until they're ready to be released into the wild.

A new study suggests pilots hit by lasers in flight don't suffer any lasting eye damage from the attacks. Researchers at the University of Calgary said they looked at the medical records of 58 male and three female pilots who were examined shortly after reporting a laser strike between April of 2012 and November of 2014. Many reported momentary blindness and blurry vision after being hit by the laser but all recovered.
