Textron Aviation announced its Cessna Pilot Center network experienced record growth in 2016. The CPC network formed 24 new partnerships last year, including five international flight schools in Argentina, Colombia, Germany, Canada and Poland, which will use the Cessna Skyhawk 172 in their training programs.
"Our commitment to supporting new pilot education and flight training is evident in the enthusiasm we see from our partner flight schools," said Doug May, Textron's vice president of Piston Aircraft.

Small aircraft at the Gatineau Airport have hit one wild turkey and come within a drumstick on three other occasions in less than two weeks.
There's been no damage to turkeys (as far as anyone can tell) or people.
A veteran Ottawa pilot says turkeys on runways are fairly routine, and pilots who keep their eyes open shouldn't get into trouble.
Adult male wild turkeys can weigh up to 10 or 11 kilograms, females about half that.

The Sopwith Pups, like the replica aircraft being built by local volunteers at the Canadian Museum of Flight, take off like a dream and land just as nicely.
Pilot Allan Snowie discovered the Sopwith Pup also glides beautifully, as he found out during a test flight Jan. 12.
"That was the one thing that was immediately noticeable when the engine stopped, it's a good glider," he said.
Test flights are supposed to show small snags in an aircraft.

"Biologists are so lucky to see the things we see," says Heather Wilson, 40, a wildlife biologist and pilot for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Division of Migratory Bird Management. "But pilot-biologists are even luckier."
Wilson is one of five female pilots flying remote landscapes for the FWS. She conducts aerial surveys to keep tabs on migratory bird populations for species management and to set sport hunting regulations.

There's definitely something different about the HondaJet.
Its novel configuration elicits comments, curiosity and speculation. It's certainly innovative, but aviation history is littered with "revolutionary" but ultimately unsuccessful designs, and it can be hard to tell "curb appeal" from genuine technology.

Think about all of the decisions a pilot makes every moment he or she is in command — choices that must fit together just so to ensure a safe flight. Sometimes the choices are simple, like correcting for a gusty crosswind in a light trainer. Other times they're considerably more challenging, like successfully controlling an airliner when the electric trim goes nuts. Of course, there are thousands more decisions in between these extremes.

In many ways, the earth is a large place. Yet in other ways, not so much.
When it comes to aviation, the world shrinks. You either look skyward longingly, or you don't. Those of us who do share a bond and joy the vast majority our fellow earthbound neighbors don't, and won't. That's sad.
A few months ago, I started asking new subscribers to The Pulse of Aviation (our daily email newsletter), what it is they do in aviation. Pilot? Mechanic? Enthusiast? Did they have a story or photo they'd like to share?
