Zenair Cruzer to attend Quebec Fly-in, June 29-30
Zenair
Canada's newest all-metal aircraft design from Zenair will be at Quebec's largest annual fly-in at the end of June: "Les Faucheurs de Margeurites" at the Sherbrooke airport. It's a perfect opportunity to view and sit in the new CH 750 Cruzer and to see it perform; company personnel will be available to answer questions on Zenair's full line of aircraft kits as well as aircraft floats.
Float plane lands safely after losing propeller, power

The float plane lost a propeller in mid-flight, chopping into both pontoons, but the pilot still managed to make a safe — but powerless — landing. Police say the incident happened shortly after the plane left Powell River, British Columbia.

19 Wing crew sent to help Alberta flood victims

Two Cormorant helicopters and a dozen members of 442 Squadron at 19 Wing are helping evacuate victims in what is being called the "worst flooding in Alberta's history." The crew of Rescue 907, which included pilots, engineers and search and rescue technicians, was dispatched and has been involved in Operation LENTUS in Calgary, Alberta.

Cadets celebrate 50th
Terrace Standard
Members of the 747 Terrace Air Cadets Squadron combined a celebration marking its 50 years of existence with an annual review outside the cadet hall at Northwest Regional Airport, in British Columbia. Family and friends watched the cadets as they were inspected, applauded as awards were presented, listened to speeches and enjoyed a barbecue afterward.
Alberta campers rescued by helicopter

Seventeen stranded campers have been rescued from the Richardson Backcountry in Alberta, Canada, after they were stuck on the north side of the Firebag River when the bridge washed out. Personnel from Regional Emergency Management, Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development and Phoenix Helicopters all worked together to rescue the 17 campers.

Canada agency calls for black boxes in small planes

The Canadian agency responsible for investigating transportation accidents called for expanding the use of black boxes to include small aircraft operators. Large commercial jets are already required to carry the lightweight recorders to monitor flight data, which can be used by investigators after an accident to determine the cause of a crash.

NAV CANADA proposes to eliminate exemption, leaving overall rate levels unchanged

NAV CANADA announced proposed revisions to its customer service charges. The company is proposing the elimination of an exemption for certain flights from its en route charge. Currently, flights operating between an airport with staffed NAV CANADA or DND facilities and an aerodrome that is neither staffed nor certified do not pay en route charges.

New safety training ordered for ORNGE helicopter pilots

ORNGE is barring its air ambulance helicopter pilots from flying in bad weather or clouds until they can show they have special training to avoid inadvertently flying into the ground. The move comes after an ORNGE Sikorsky helicopter crashed during a night flight in Moosonee, Ontario, killing the two pilots and two flight paramedics on board.

Career fixing aircraft started out early

Don Nikkel is one of the veterans of the Langley Regional Airport in British Columbia, Canada.
Not only has he run Valley Aero Engines for 35 years, the aircraft engineer has also flown out of the airport since the early 1960s, when he first moved to town.
His first experience of the airport was a field with a single paved runway, a handful of hangars and a few businesses, including crop dusting.

Government sends helicopters to help rescue stranded Alberta residents
The Globe and Mail
The Canadian government has dispatched two helicopters and an airplane to help rescue Alberta residents stranded by rising flood waters.
A CH-146 Griffon helicopter, stationed in Cold Lake, Alberta, and a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter, based in Comox, British Columbia, were originally deployed to Canmore, Aberta.
Korean War vets living at Bridges go on Honor Flight together

Charles Dale, Frank Lape, Elston Peters and Dwayne Driscoll went on the most recent Honor Flight out of Waterloo, Ontario.
They all live at Bridges Senior Lifestyle Living in Waterloo, and they all served during the Korean War.
Dale and Peters were in the Army. Driscoll was in the Navy on the aircraft carrier Midway, and Lape served in the Air Force.
