COPA
This is Michel Gordillo's THIRD round-the-world flight and he will be studying the effects of black carbon particles that are affecting our atmosphere. His departure will be in October.
Patrick Gilligan in support to Miguel's efforts, will be donating time to build a pair of wheel/skis. Such equipment is required on this leg over Antarctica. Although these skis where designed for safety in mind, Patrick has been flying his RV8 onto unprepared snow covered fields, lakes and rivers since 2012 with great success.
To learn more, follow his flight or donate to this cause go to http://www.skypolaris.org/ski-way/.

Whistler Question
On March 22, 1956, a T33 military jet mysteriously disappeared over the Callaghan Valley. The two pilots were never found, and 60 years later only a few pieces have been recovered that would give us any clue as to what happened to the two men inside the plane when it went down.
They were First Officers James Miller and Gerald Stubbs of the 409 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Their flight was only scheduled to take an hour and a half and was supposed to stay within a 100-mile radius of the Comox base on Vancouver Island.

According to author Les Green: So a mysterious airplane found a home on our Crescent Lake awhile ago, and it made the front page of the Leader. Wowee! It did this old man's heart good to read about it, for what made it unique was that it was a float plane, something we in Portage see so few of. As you may or may not know, a float plane does not have wheels and can only land on water, unless, that is, maybe it has skiis and is at home on ice or snow in the winter.

Regina Leader-Post
In the air, the list of things to look out for is endless.
There's a power line, but is there another running off it?
Will that road have a rise in it that's not level with the field beyond it?
Is something hidden behind that hill?
When the routine includes flying lower than power lines to make them more visible against a blue sky, it's clear crop dusting is no average job.

Alberta's hail-fighting pilots prevented an average of three storms a day from delivering huge hail this summer — one of their busiest years ever.
The Alberta Severe Weather Management Society's team of 11 pilots, aided by three meteorologists on the ground, flies directly into the fiercest storm cells to break up hail. Their efforts often save Albertans — and their insurance companies — from dealing with the havoc wreaked by the most threatening storms.
