According to author Michelle Allenberg: When I started my day the last thing I thought I'd be doing was flying a plane, but somehow I ended up doing just that.
I headed out to do my reporter thing for the annual COPA (Canadian Owners and Pilots Association) Kids Flight Day at Niagara Central Dorothy Rungeling Airport. Children who had never been in a plane before got to take a trip up for free.
It all started off as it usually does, sussing out the situation — who to talk to and what to take photos of.

The restricted airspace over Parliament Hill and Rideau Hall has already been violated 14 times this year in a series of incidents that highlight the difficulty of securing the capital's most sensitive facilities.
Among the offenders was a low-flying helicopter that violated both protected airspaces on the same day in late March. Contacted by air traffic controllers, the pilot said that his GPS was broken and he was having trouble finding the Casino du Lac Leamy.

Spotting an airplane in the sky was an exciting feat when Jim and Anne Thibodeau were school-aged in the 1930s because it was the only occasion when they and their classmates were allowed to drop what they were doing and watch each plane until it flew out of sight.
Eighty years later, it's the residents of the South Okanagan who will drop what they're doing to watch the plane in the sky, as Jim will be in the cockpit, because the lifelong pilot decided to celebrate his 90th birthday by soaring over local landscapes.

The Lewisporte Pilot
If you've ever sat in wonder and awe at the beauty of this island from a plane while landing or taking off, you're going to envy Joanne King's hobby.
The retired Grand Falls-Windsor teacher bought herself a camera as a retirement gift when her career ended five years ago.
Her love of photography and nature has been compounded by her newfound love of flying, thanks to her personal pilot (and his Cessna). She now regularly soars over the province she loves, and takes pictures from a perspective most people don't get to enjoy.

The Calgary Flying Club is training its first class of aviation students from China after a five-year deal was struck to generate more commercial pilots as demand heats up in that country's aviation sector.

We took off from Camarillo under calm, clear blue skies. The hillsides along the coast of Southern California displayed a panoply of colors — bright-green grasses mixed with expansive patches of purple, yellow and orange flowers. The last time I was in Camarillo in a Lancair Evolution, the airplane had a big Pratt & Whitney PT6A up front and the hills were brown. During this flight, it was not just the view that was significantly different.

When Chris Haines dropped off his son for his first day of kindergarten, he told him he would check on him in the afternoon.
He did.
From 1,000 above the school.
The annual fly-over Carthage schools was a success; capturing pictures of each elementary school and the Carthage Middle School morning in a Cessna 172.
"It was a little bumpy," Haines said. "I was a little concerned at 9 a.m. when cloud cover was only 700 feet above the ground, but the sun cleared it up to a ceiling about 3,500 feet."
