The Canadian Beacon Registry (CBR) ran a pilot project in 2012 which sent users of registered 406 MHz Cospas-Sarsat beacons an email when the self-test of their beacons were detected. The pilot project was a resounding success, with the general aviation and small operator communities in particular, as it demonstrated the value of registering 406 Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELTs).
Unfortunately that pilot project was suspended later that year when the CBR database was reengineered to provide the enhanced web interface that many people utilize daily. Since that time we have been working to create a newer and better version of that email tool which is now in effect, as of Nov. 30, 2015.

A British Airways pilot suffered burns to his retina after being attacked by a laser so strong that officials are calling it "military strength." While the identity of the pilot is being protected, British Airline Pilots' Association spokesperson Jim McAuslan is speaking out on his behalf, warning about the "growing threat." The victim was serving as the flight's co-pilot back in the spring, and he has not returned to work since suffering the optical injury.

FLYING
According to author Henry Fiorentini: As a relative newbie to flying in "weather," I am impressed when I head off VFR with more-seasoned pilots in haze that would scare me if I was alone. "It's just haze, with a good 5 miles of visibility," I am often told. But looking straight ahead through 5 miles of mild haze is indistinguishable to me from a thick, impenetrable wall of haze with less than VFR minimums.

Hi, my name is Bill and I'm a toolaholic...
Very few aircraft builders are not tool hounds. These are the people who walk through the local tool stores with a glazed look in their eyes. They are thankful when their spouse gives them a wrench for a present, even if they already have 12 identical ones in the toolbox. When a tool catalog arrives in the mail, they trip over the first step leading to the front door because they are heads down in the catalog. If this describes you, you need help!
