CPRS
In 67 days, CPRS National and the Northern Lights Society will light up Kelowna, B.C. by welcoming delegates to Illuminate, the 2017 CPRS National Conference. So, to build excitement and attract as many delegates as possible, we've recruited veteran Conference goers to share their thoughts on why you should join us May 28-30!
First up is CPRS Vancouver President, Emma Shea, APR:
This May, I will attend my fifth Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) national conference. In anticipation of the upcoming "summer camp for PR pros," I began to reflect on my previous conference experiences and asked myself what kind of value I have received by attending. Here's what's in it for me.

Membership Month is in full swing at CPRS and Canada's leading association for professional communicators is growing by the day. To keep the momentum going, we’d like to remind any CPRS Member who missed the Illuminate 2017 Early bird deadline that the Member Referral program can still earn you up to $800 in CPRS credits, which can be put towards that Conference registration.
And now that regular prices are in full effect, it's the perfect time for your colleagues to take advantage of the Join and Attend registration option, which lets them join CPRS and register for Illuminate 2017 at the Extra-early bird rate in one fell swoop!
SCRP

The world we live in today is completely different from what it was 20 or even 10 years ago. Advancements in technology have both improved and disrupted our lives. Take, for instance, how artificial intelligence has transformed the way we communicate and get things done. We also can't overlook how machines are replacing jobs we as humans have been operating for decades. If Siri can answer our questions and Uber can develop self-driving cars, what's next on the horizon for AI?

When Jackie King was a wee lass of five, she was given a minor role in a community play. She had three lines. Just three. But when it came time for her to deliver them on stage, she froze and started to cry.
Very few audience members would have predicted then that King would one day land the role of general manager of the Ottawa office of Hill+Knowlton Strategies and would ultimately be promoted to national senior vice-president at one of Canada's most prominent public relations and public affairs consultancy firms.

In this way, public relations falls victim to the conventional business wisdom that PR hasn't earned more resources because it cannot be measured.
