Dr. Fauci says COVID-19 vaccine could become mandatory for travel

In a statement that is sure to spark debate from anti-vaccine supporters as well as civil liberties proponents, the nation’s preeminent immunologist and infectious disease expert said it’s “quite possible” that having the vaccine for COVID-19 becomes a requirement in order to travel.
"Anything is on the table. Anything is possible, of course,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), told Newsweek in an interview.

Transportation Minister Marc Garneau clarifies new COVID travel rules

Canadians will now have two options when returning to Canada from abroad ; get tested in destination and if there is a lack of facilities available, mandatory quarantine in a government-run facility upon return.
In an interview with CBC News just before 5:00pm ET on New Year’s Eve, Garneau explained the new rules requiring that, effective January 7, 2021, at 12:01 a.m. EST, all air passengers five years of age or older will be required to test negative for COVID-19 before travelling from another country to Canada. This implementation date provides all airlines, both foreign and domestic, adequate time to comply with the new requirements.
The news is sure to cause harsh criticism in the industry, where he added he feels “airlines will understand the measures.

“On behalf of the hotel industry, we applaud the House and Senate leadership, along with the Administration, for reaching a bipartisan compromise on this COVID economic relief package. This short-term relief package is a vital step toward helping the hotel industry survive this crisis. The proposed measure provides temporary relief over the next few months and will help thousands of hotels stay open and retain employees."

Travel's Year in Review: Words to Describe 2020

When I look back on 2020 and consider the great difficulties our industry has endured, I realize that there are a handful of fitting words that we did not hear enough: “Tenacity” “resilience” and “fortitude.” Amid all that was lost, I would encourage us to look back on this year remembering how our industry united like never before, lifted each other up, aided one another, and devoted ourselves fully to the task of securing multiple rounds of federal relief while navigating both the pandemic and a contentious political environment.
