Destination Canada's unprecedented partnership with the Provinces gives Canadian communities the lift they need

To mark national tourism week, Destination Canada — the country’s national tourism marketing organization, announced a new partnership with the provinces and territories to deliver locally led marketing programs encouraging Canadians to discover their own back yard.
Over the next 18 months, Destination Canada will invest $30 million with Provincial and Territorial Marketing Organizations to support the recovery of communities.

Hawaii moving forward with COVID-19 testing program despite resistance

Hawaii’s previously announced pre-travel COVID-19 testing program is being met with resistance as local officials voice concerns over possible loopholes that could lead to another coronavirus outbreak, according to The Associated Press.
The state’s testing program is scheduled to launch on October 15 and will allow Hawaii-bound travellers who provide negative virus test results within 72 hours of arrival to avoid the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) recently announced the latest in international expansion for its avid hotels brand — the groundbreaking for the first Canadian property located in Vaughan, a suburb of Toronto. The property is owned by PI Cap and is part of a robust pipeline of new avid hotels currently under development across Canada. There are more than a dozen avid hotels now open and welcoming guests, including the first property in Mexico, and 90 properties under construction or with plans approved for construction across Canada, the United States and Mexico.

California: State approves 'mini-CFPB' expanding regulatory authority

On September 25, 2020, the Governor of California signed a package of bills into law aimed at protecting consumers in the state from financial predators and abusive business practices. Included in the package is AB 1864, which establishes the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) and adds 90 positions over the next three years to transform the agency into California’s version of the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

With a storm rolling in calling for rough seas with strong nautical winds and up to six metre swells, eco tourism operators Kevin Smith and Russell Markel knew they were racing against time to remove the lift bags filled with tons of marine debris their crew and colleagues had collected over the last five weeks off the north coast of BC.
“There’s no way we can be there in those conditions and we were worried that the bags were going to be washed out to sea,” says Markel, the owner of Outer Shores Expeditions, one of five small ship tour operators that made up the Marine Debris Removal Initiative — a shore cleanup expedition focused on the outer coast of The Great Bear Rainforest.

It’s quiet, but there are all those amenities close by. We have a nice pool, access to TTC and the bike path. You can visit Toronto and you don’t need a car.” Those are some of the comments made by Nathalie Lalonde, general manager, when asked what’s so special about the Radisson Blu Toronto Downtown, formerly the Radisson Hotel Admiral Toronto-Harbourfront, which became the first Radisson Blu in Canada on October 8.
