Canada's hotel industry applauds fall economic statement and targeted measures to support the hardest hit sectors

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently announced that Canada has secured an agreement to receive its first batch of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine before the end of the year — up to 249,000 doses.

Newly formed travel coalition says government aid needed now

The group, which includes the American Hotel and Lodging Association and the U.S. Travel Association, according to our sister publication Travel Weekly, is called the Covid Relief Now Coalition.

Forter secures $125 million funding for digital fraud prevention tech

E-commerce fraud detection and prevention service Forter has brought in $125 million in a Series E funding round.
The company has captured the investment in a deal led by Bessemer Venture Partners, Felix Capital and Itai Tsiddon, with participation from Sequoia Capital, NewView Capital, Scale Venture Partners, March Capital Partners and Commerce Ventures.

Claims management companies under fire

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has written to claims management companies (CMCs) to voice concerns that many of them are not doing enough to investigate potential claims, resulting in meritless cases on the part of consumers being pursued which are unlikely to succeed.
RDO further understands that the FCA has criticized CMCs for their poor grasp of their regulatory obligations and the way in which they deal with the FCA, which took over responsibility for the claims management sector in 2019. Failure to comply with the FCA rules could lead to enforcement action and, ultimately, to CMCs losing permission to carry out regulated activities.

Rapid COVID-19 tests coming to Montreal Trudeau Airport next week

Rapid testing for COVID-19 is coming to YUL next week.
DM Aéroports de Montréal and Biron Health Group Inc. are launching a pilot project to test a new rapid screening process for COVID-19 on departures from YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport to destinations requiring a negative result medical certificate for admission to their territory. These antigenic tests will make it possible to perform certified and rapid tests within 15 minutes.
