Do guns on the premises make workplaces safer?

This year, Tennessee joined 21 other states that allow employees to leave guns in their cars in the office parking lot. The laws have left many employers debating how best to ensure safety at work. There is no consistent trend in workplace homicides among states that have adopted parking lot laws versus those that have not. But nationally, office killings have declined over the past decade.

A cheerful welcome in honor of veterans

VideoBrief A cheering crowd served as a welcome surprise for 12 wounded combat veterans as they arrived at Texas' San Angelo Regional Airport recently. Retired Army and combat veteran Chris Gill read out the veterans’ names as they made their way through the lobby, passing by more than 50 San Angelo residents and members of Lone Star Warriors Outdoors. The Goodfellow Joint Service Color Guard also helped welcome the veterans, who are participating in the second annual Wounded Warriors Hunt and Banquet held by LSWO.

Guitars provide path to health for veterans

Guitars for Vets at the VA Medical Center in Loma Linda, California, started a year ago, provides guitars and music instruction for veterans who have been referred by the center's behavioral health department. Students get 10 individual half-hour lessons over 10 weeks. If they complete the course, they receive a guitar of their own and can participate in group sessions with other graduates.
