The Advocate
Bobby Schnabel, a contributor for CSTA's The Advocate, writes: "This fall, I taught an undergraduate class (at the University of Colorado Boulder) on Computing, Ethics and Social Responsibility. It was a wonderful experience. I think there are some lessons from this experience that are relevant to high school teachers who are thinking of introducing some discussion of issues in ethics and computing into their courses, even if just a few classes or portions of classes are devoted to this topic."

Talk Business & Politics
The Arkansas Department of Education on Jan. 9, 2020, published a 17-page report that is a five-year victory lap for the computer coding education program pushed by Gov. Asa Hutchinson in 2014 and supported by funding in 2015. Hutchinson campaigned in 2014 on an initiative to expand computer science courses in school districts across the state. In his first legislative session, he successfully passed legislation to expand offerings in school districts statewide, including funding for teacher training in computer science. He also annually makes a computer coding tour of the state to encourage participation in the program.

Bring up the idea of even the possibility of artificially intelligent robots replacing some of what teachers do, and you are likely to spark a tornado of anger among many educators. Intelligent machines could never match human interactions, they argue. Such moves would be a giant step toward a digital dystopia in education. That kind of reaction to the role of AI robots in education clearly played out in our recent Big Ideas survey of K-12 teachers, which featured questions about robotics.

District Administration Magazine
Today's students are using technology to collaborate, learn, research and communicate at school. Blended and personalized learning with digital tools has flooded classrooms, but most teacher-prep programs do not incorporate digital citizenship as a requirement for certification. This leads to districts pushing digital learning into schools where teachers may not have received online safety training. K-12 administrators must make teachers and students aware of safety concerns, and then empower students with strategies for being good digital citizens.
