Intentional Practices Can Address Inequity For Girls In Computer Science
CSTA
Inequity in the tech sector is not groundbreaking news. Tech startups owned by women make up 5% of the IT sector and females comprise a meager 15% of all leadership roles. In honor of Women's History Month, we celebrate the few who have broken the glass ceiling and recognize that we have far more to do if we want to ensure that we continue to increase the number of women with Computer Science degrees (currently only 15%). Let's take time to acknowledge the progress made and use this month to highlight the gender inequity that continues to plague tech sectors.

First graders at Solomon Elementary School squealed and cheered as they skipped past and then stomped on bright blue floor tiles that lit up, changed color and made sounds. "When do I get to play ?" asked one eager girl, Arianna, just moments after she'd had a turn. "This feels like playing on the playground." Her classmate, Dominick, chimed in : "It's fun, exciting and challenging!"

Here are 5 words school staff used to describe fall 2020
District Administration Magazine
"Anxious," "overwhelmed," "stress," "tired" and "worry" were the five words teachers and other school staff used to best describe fall 2020, according to an ongoing University of Kentucky study. The vast majority of the 10,000 school staff members surveyed — more than 70% — also said that "difficulties were piling up so high that [they] could not handle them." A key goal of the study is to investigate how the impacts of COVID might outlast the pandemic, said the survey's creator, professor Erin Haynes, chair of the university's Department of Epidemiology & Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health.

How co-teaching helped our new teachers support students, in-person and online
EdSurge (commentary)
Tom Whisinnand, a contributor for EdSurge, writes: "'I hope it works, I hope it works,' I muttered to myself as Tonja, the student teacher in our classroom, logged into Zoom to reach the remote learners in our class. As the program started, I couldn't help but think how different her experience as a preservice teacher was from my own. Eighteen years ago, when I was a student-teacher, I started out by silently sitting in the back of an elementary-grade classroom, watching, observing and taking notes. I didn't get much time to interact with students."

What it takes to get hybrid instruction right
EdTech Magazine
When school districts went fully remote in response to COVID-19, the need for immediate technology — any technology — often superseded the need to choose the right long-term technology. Now, as more schools adopt hybrid learning models, school districts have learned more about what it takes amplify lessons for students both in class and at home.

Why Zoom fatigue occurs and how educators can overcome it

When elevators first emerged in the 1800s, people riding these "ascending rooms" weren't sure where to look but ultimately realized facing the door and avoiding eye contact was the best bet. "Being close to someone and staring them in the eye at the same time has a very strong meaning, but then suddenly if you are in an elevator, you find yourself very close to a stranger," says Géraldine Fauville, an assistant professor at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
