Hybrid Learning to Support Children's Positive Technological Development: Creativity — Part 1
CSTA
Creativity is one of the most important skills we hope to support in young children, but one of the most difficult to teach. Although most people can easily recognize and identify when children are engaging in creative work, education researchers have a hard time even defining what creativity is, and how to measure it (e.g., Cowan, 2006; Patston et al., 2017). Perhaps this is because of the diversity of approaches, topics, and skills inherent to creative thinking. After all, part of creativity is innovation and trying to explore something that's never been tried before.

Build a coding 'playground' to boost kids' academic & SEL skills
Yahoo News
As schools across the country return to in-person classes, elementary school teachers face the challenge of helping students get up to speed in both academic and social-emotional skills. Coding offers an opportunity to re-engage children into communities of learning in a holistic way, supporting both a range of STEAM — science, technology, engineering, arts and math — and soft skills. The metaphor at the heart of my book Coding as a Playground can help to explain how.

Distance learning tools that teachers and students hope become the norm
MindShift
When distance learning necessitated a reliance on technology, many teachers began experimenting with digital tools. From the student perspective, experiences were mixed. Some appreciated the new opportunities created by these technologies, especially in contrast to some limitations of in-person learning. Others chose to return to more analog methods, determining what worked best from the prior world and consciously choosing to keep some of the newer tools acquired during remote teaching.

Teachers are done — Because of all they've done
We Are Teachers
There is one thing we can all agree on: teachers are done. We're done with the pandemic and done with waiting for the return of normal. We're done feeling exhausted physically, mentally, and emotionally. With the end of the school year just days away, it's time for one more vent — you know, the kind of vent you do in a single breath at the end of one of those days. Rest assured, this read will leave you with a sigh of relief and a belief in better days to come.
