K-12 CS Teachers: Have You Shared Your Voice?
CSTA
Are you a K-12 teacher who lives in the United States? Have you completed our teacher survey? CSTA and the Kapor Center are conducting a survey of K-12 computer science teachers in the United States. The CS education landscape continues to evolve, and we want to hear directly from teachers about your experiences, challenges, and what resources would be most useful to you at this time. Scholars create graphic novel to spur discussion of inequity in computer science
EdSurge
The two scholars typically publish their work in journals or books for academics and policymakers—including two well-known books by Margolis called “Stuck in the Shallow End: Education, Race and Computing” and “Unlocking the Clubhouse: Women in Computing.” But they recently got an unusual invitation: Would they be up for writing a book about inequality in computer science aimed at kids—at the very students who are getting such unequal offerings in their schools?

Those in the education sector start to wonder, how can STEM and coding skills be accessible to all? For STEM to work, there must be buy-in from educators. Before you can evaluate your school’s STEM accessibility, the right environment must exist to facilitate its implementation. For starters, create a classroom environment that gives STEM the best chance for success. Research shows STEM education does best in classrooms where:

ODU trains teachers to integrate computer science with core subjects
Old Dominion University
n 2017, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) added a requirement that school divisions integrate computer science standards into core classes, such as English, math and history. The only problem? School divisions weren't sure how to do it.
Enter The Center for Educational Partnerships (TCEP) at Old Dominion University, which is dedicated to helping educators succeed. In 2019, TCEP staff won a VDOE-sponsored competition to design training for teachers to help students learn about core subjects and build computer skills at the same time.
