At the upcoming EAPA 2018 EAP Conference in Minneapolis, Michiel Rauws, the founder and CEO of X2 AI will introduce Tess — an artificial intelligence mental health chatbot that engages in text conversations with people to help them through tough times. Attendees can hear Michiel explain how being a patient lead him to create Tess during a breakout session from 10-11 a.m., on Oct. 13. Then, at 11 a.m., attendees can sign up to speak to Tess during a live demonstration by texting "EAPA" to 720-650-2717. Finally, Rauws will be giving a keynote TED style talk at 12:30 p.m. to explain how AI Chatbots may revolutionize the delivery of counseling services in areas where no professionals are available. After many decades in print with various titles, the EAPA Journal of Employee Assistance will adopt an all-digital format with the 1st Quarter 2019 issue (January-March 2019). As part of this transition, the last print edition will be our 4th Quarter 2018 issue. This new JEA will be a single, global edition targeted for a highly mobile audience who want to acquire in depth information about employee assistance in a sophisticated context. People in the LGBTQ+ community, particularly young trans people, as well as members of the military and veterans, experience higher rates of depression and suicide compared with the general population.
Men, despite the advantages and privilege they tend to have, are statistically more likely to attempt suicide. In Australia, 75 percent of suicide attempts involve men. In the U.S. that number is 78 percent.

A 2016 study involving over 6,000 employees in multiple cities conducted by 1to1Help, a Bengaluru-based employee assistance program provider, found that 80 percent of the respondents exhibited symptoms of anxiety while 55 percent had symptoms of depression. A bigger worry? The study found that between 2008 and 2016, the risk of suicidal behavior in India nearly quadrupled — from 2.1 out of 10 employees to 8.21.
