It has been almost a year since the Polk County Sheriff's Office introduced the use of drones for emergency situations where they would normally use a helicopter. The system, rolled out in January, is called the Aerial Response Team. Ten drones are used in daytime hours by five patrol districts. The night shift has three drones.

The Wakulla County Sheriff's Office says 17 suspects have been arrested on various drug charges as part of an undercover sting operation known as 'Operation Dry Ice.' Investigators say 14 additional arrests are pending. 'Operation Dry Ice' was first launched to apprehend drug dealers selling methamphetamine in Wakulla County. But, investigators say as the year progressed, detectives with WCSO's Criminal Investigations Division Narcotics Unit became increasingly concerned by the number of drug dealers selling synthetic narcotics, particularly opiates, in the county and the operation was expanded.

A litter of puppies thrown from a vehicle on Christmas Day was rescued by deputies with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office. In what the agency dubbed the "Great Christmas Puppy Rescue" in a post on Facebook, deputies were able to save the puppies thanks to a tip from a concerned citizen. Thankfully, the puppies were not injured, according to the post.
