Graham honors late Sheriff Larry Campbell on US House floor

U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham paid tribute to Leon County Sheriff Larry Campbell, who died while in office Dec. 24, on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. "Our community will remember Sheriff Campbell as a dedicated public servant. We owe him and his family a great debt of gratitude," said Graham.

Scott appoints Mike Wood as sheriff

Gov. Rick Scott announced this afternoon that he has appointed Leon County Undersheriff Mike Wood as Leon County sheriff. "Undersheriff Michael Wood's three decades of law enforcement experience will allow him, and the entire Leon County Sheriff's Office, to continue the legacy of Sheriff Larry Campbell, who was a true law enforcement hero," Scott said in a news release.

Hillsborough sheriff devotes more resources to homeless initiative

The deputies who work on the Hillsborough County Sheriff Office Homeless Initiative face a daunting, seemingly impossible task every day: get the homeless off the streets. "We just started getting people off the street left and right and helping them with just simple things — getting IDs and getting health care," said Deputy Stephanie Krager, who started working on the initiative a couple years ago. "The sheriff saw the changes we were making here in (District 3) and decided to expand it sheriff’s office-wide."

Sheriff’' office warns residents: Lock 'em up

Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office reported that 77 vehicle burglaries have been reported since Dec. 23. Of those, 48 were from unlocked vehicles and 29 were forced entry or "smash and grabs," where a window was broken to get property from inside the vehicle.

5 members of a family in Florida arrested during drug bust
International Business Times
Five members of a family were arrested in Florida, and cash and "trafficking amounts" of morphine, crack cocaine and marijuana meant for sale seized from them, as part of a crackdown on drug traffickers. The arrests were made by the Bradford County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the Starke Police Department and Lawtey Police Department in Lawtey area of Florida.
