Lake, Polk announce 101 arrests in prostitution, child sex operation

Earlier this week, the Sheriff's Office worked a case where a local woman responded to a threatening call she believed was from the IRS. The caller demanded her to pay $800 and if she didn't pay that day the FBI would come and arrest her. Believing the call to be legitimate, she wired $500 to someone in Orlando. After being informed it was a scam, she did not send any more money.
Putnam residents charged in 'Operation Heat Wave'

Nineteen of the suspects have been charged with violations of Florida Statutes and one has been federally indicted for the distribution of a controlled substance.
The warrants come as the result of a six-month series of undercover investigations by the drug and vice unit.
