The review committee met to consider 14 applications for the FSA's Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award. This award is presented to one person or a team of two for their exemplary service in the previous year. The Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award recipient will be announced and honored at the FSA Summer Conference in Marco Island.

Human trafficking task force forms in Orange County

The formation of the Greater Orlando Human Trafficking Task Force has been announced. Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said his county leads the state in human trafficking complaints, but he also said leads and clues are coming in better than ever.
Volusia sheriff: 'We're not going to tolerate' synthetic drug business

It started when a father sought Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson's help for his son who was using synthetic drugs, and it ended with the bust of a synthetic drug ring. Fourteen people were arrested in what Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi called the state's largest bust of its kind.

alive on the job. We do this so we can come home to our families and enjoy the life that we are working so hard to provide for. But also, as police officers, there is a duty that must be upheld at all times.

Brandon pot bust nets $600,000 in marijuana

Deputies found a marijuana indoor grow operation in the garage that appeared to be constructed for the sole purpose of growing marijuana. It was equipped with lights, ballasts, fans, CO2, an A/C unit — all powered by an illegal electrical connection — and other miscellaneous items commonly used to grow marijuana.

Putnam County Sheriff's Office conducts Operation Spring Cleaning

The operation consisted of undercover purchases of various drugs and narcotic medications in Putnam County, Cresent City and Interlachen. In addition to the 12 arrested, police say they are still seeking 11 more suspects in relation to this undercover drug operation.

JAWS team holds signing ceremony

The JAWS team will help reduce duplication of resources, therefore saving money. It's also providing underwater criminology students with first-hand experience. This new team is already getting their feet wet. According to Fish and Wildlife Major Bruce Cooper, the signing ceremony was just an official start of what has already begun.
Getting to know Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis

Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis has a long history in law enforcement. Prior to the top post, Nienhuis served 10 years as second in command for the Pasco Sheriff's Office. He also worked in law enforcement in Clearwater, Sarasota and Fort Myers.
