Clay detective named National Sheriffs' Association Officer of the Year

For the first time in department history, a Clay County sheriff's deputy has received one of the highest honors an officer can be awarded. Detective Matt Hanlin has been named the National Sheriffs' Association 2012 Officer of the Year.

BSCO hoops team blasts Metro Dade for cops title

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office basketball team won the gold medal at the Florida Law Enforcement and Fire Games. BCSO won the championship game against Metro Dade, 77-64. In the championship game, the team was led by Corrections Deputy Carl Jenkins who poured in 34 points, with 21 coming from three-point range. Jenkins also had 14 rebounds.

Fundraiser for family of fallen Polk Deputy Shane Robbins on June 29
WTSP-TV
Master Deputy Sheriff Shane Robbins, 40, left behind a wife and five children when he was tragically killed in an auto accident. Robbins had been with the Polk County Sheriff's Office for 15 years. On June 29, a benefit will take place for his family. It'll be held all day at Winners Circle Sports Bar and Comedy Club, located at 4215 South Florida Avenue in Lakeland.

Jacksonville sheriff: Off-duty officer dies in crash
WTLV-TV
An off-duty officer has died in a head-on crash with a tractor-trailer, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has confirmed. Officer Tchenter Wilson, 43, had served 15 years with JSO. The crash is still under investigation and there is no cause determined as of yet.

Okaloosa Sheriff's Office donates bicycles to youth camp

For about nine years, the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office has participated at Caruth Camp, a program that gives underprivileged children an opportunity to learn leadership skills and have fun with their peers as well as deputies. The camp in Inglis in Levy County brings in up to 72 children between 10 and 15 years old each week during the summer.
