Sheriffs cautious about expanding juvenile citations

The use of civil citations to divert juvenile offenders from the justice system has spread to nearly all Florida counties. A new law goes into effect Oct .1, giving teens who are apprehended by law enforcement second or third chances to avoid arrest. … "To me, it's all about making the good decision," Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said. "It's less important the number of civil citations a kid gets — it's the circumstances surrounding it."

Florida Sheriff's Deputies pull man from ledge

The two-minute rescue began at 11:20 p.m. July 27, along the Andrews Avenue bridge over I-95. Sgt. Bryan Nord, 40, and Deputy Jonathan Vazquez, 33, worked together to save the man, who had been unresponsive and slowly inched his way closer to the edge of the small ledge as the deputies neared.
