Community groups take on human trafficking along the Emerald Coast

The 12-year-old girl came from a troubled home where she suffered abuse at the hands of a sexual predator. Without counseling and help, she became an easy target and victim. This was the first time Brad Dennis — who retired from the U.S. Navy in 2003 — had come across sexual trafficking, a growing problem nationwide and along Florida's Emerald Coast.

Correction: Congratulations to the Leon County Explorers!

Last week, we ran an article that mistakenly congratulated Lake county, when in fact the Leon County Explorers took home the big win at the FSEA state conference. We apologize for the error.

The Florida Sheriffs confirmed this position by voting unanimously, at the 2013 Florida Sheriffs Association Summer Conference, to support the 'Stand Your Ground law' as it is currently written," FSA President and Polk county Sheriff Grady Judd said in an official statement.

New safety program reminds community to 'Hide, Lock, Take'
