Prescription drug deaths falling across Florida

"Florida's sheriffs are pleased to see the continued reduction in drug-related deaths. It is because of the Prescription Drug Monitoring Database and the Drug Strike Force teams that law enforcement has been able to crack down on prescription drug abuse," said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, president of the Florida Sheriffs Association.

Research shows Florida casinos will not have much impact

Florida texting and driving law takes effect

"During the 2013 legislative session, the Florida Sheriffs Association fully supported anti-texting legislation, and we are happy to have this new law put into effect today," said Steve Casey, executive director of the Florida Sheriffs Association. "FSA has continually supported safe driving through our youth program — the Teen Driver Challenge — and will remain active in educating and promoting safe driving among all drivers."

Cigarette trafficking: A big problem in a small package

The circumvention of a state's cigarette excise tax may not seem like a criminal enterprise worthy of serious attention from law enforcement. But Corporal Detective Johnny Capocelli of Virginia's Chesterfield County Police Department strongly disagrees. "This isn't a tax issue. This is about the criminal activities associated with cigarette trafficking," Capocelli says.
