Florida Sheriffs Task Force Operation Safe Steps targets pedestrian safety

The Florida Sheriffs Task Force (FSTF) announced the results of Operation Safe Steps, a month-long operation focused on pedestrian safety with the goal of reducing pedestrian injuries and deaths resulting from traffic crashes. … "Operation Safe Steps helped us take a big step forward in making Florida a safer place for pedestrians," said FSTF Chair and Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri. "It is our responsibility as sheriffs to not only protect our citizens but also educate them and Operation Safe Steps was extremely successful in that regard."

Sgt. Larry Jones, one of Flagler Sheriff's first black deputies, retires after 30 years

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office, along with family and friends, said thank you to Sgt. Larry D. Jones Saturday (Nov. 29) at a retirement party at the Palm Coast Yacht Club in Palm Coast. Jones's career has straddled the best and worst of the county's history. When he was hired in October 1984, Jones was only the fifth African-American deputy hired in Flagler County, which only a few years earlier had been the last county to desegregate its schools in Florida.

Florida group to raise awareness of K-9 Units

The Pasco Sheriff's K-9 Association, whose goal is to raise awareness of the agency's K-9 officers, became a reality. "We started this to bring awareness to the community and expand" the K-9 program, Sheriff Nocco said. "People retire from agencies and organizations, but canines sometimes get forgotten. They're loyal and disciplined, and when they retire, we take care of them."
