Special Welcome Message from Scott Burns and Rafig Azzam, IAEG

|
Prof. Rafig Azzam, President, IAEG
|
Welcome to the 173rd IAEG Connector, the electronic newsletter connecting environmental and engineering geologists around the world!
So much is happening this coming week! We have been waiting for the regional conference in Athens! It happens next week and will be a hybrid! Members around the world can watch the C25 workshop on engineering geology models (see below) or attend the aggregate committee meeting virtually! The report on the successes of the big meeting in Argentina is also noted by Vice President Jorge Bejerman, Vice President of Latin America. International Geoethics Day is coming up in two weeks. Many other meetings are also listed!
There are lots of engineering geology news items too! Seven people were killed and seven are missing in a mudslide in China. Melbourne, Australia, is not a place known for earthquakes, but it had a 5.8 magnitude one this past week! Also, a 90-minute long earthquake was registered on Mars!
Enjoy
Scott Burns, now Past President, IAEG, and editor, IAEG Connector, and Rafig Azzam, President, IAEG

Indian Society of Engineering Geology sponsors EGCON 2021: Recent Advances in Geotechnics, December 9-11, 2021, virtual format
IAEG
The Indian Society of Engineering Geology (ISEG), the Indian National Group of International Association for Engineering Geology and The Environment (IAEG), is continuously engaged in dissemination of knowledge amongst the professionals. The ISEG (www.isegindia.org) is regularly publishing its biennial journal — Journal of Engineering Geology (www.joegindia.com) and newsletter. During the COVID-19 pandemic period, ISEG has continued this endeavor by hosting events on virtual platforms.
Presently, the ISEG is being headed by Sh. A. K. Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC Limited — the largest hydropower utility of India. Under the able guidance of Sh. A.K. Singh, the Indian national group is progressing fast, and in the last one year we have been able to add more than 80 life members to the ISEG.
ISEG, in association with NHPC, is going to organize an International Conference on “Recent Advances in Geotechnics (EGCON-2021)” from December 9-11, 2021, on the virtual platform.

Latest IAEG Electronic Newsletter for 2021: Issue 2 is published!
IAEG
Congratulations to the IAEG staff in China for a superb Electronic Newsletter #2! It had so much news! We loved the initial article about Red Beach on Santorini Island in Greece written by IAEG Vice President Vassilis Marinos. One incredible news item was that our Bulletin of Engineering Geology had another increase in the impact factor from 3.04 to 4.298 — congratulations to our superb editors! There were great sections on our new honorary members, our YEG seminar series, new membership numbers for the world being at 2948 (but over 20 countries have not supplied data for membership including our large membership which comes from China so this number is low), and lots of good information from national groups.
