Attendees will learn the essential traits for success from a faculty of expert security consultants Alan Brockbank, CPP, CSC, William Birks, Jr., CPP, and Rene Rieder, Jr. CPP, PSP, CHS-IV, CMAS, covering topics such how to start your business, attract clients, and best practices for completing the consulting assignment. The workshop registration fee can be applied to IAPSC membership application within 30 days of attendance.

The use of body cameras by law enforcement is still in its infancy, but a University of South Florida study says the technology is building confidence between at least one Florida police department and the community it serves.
USF researchers and the Orlando Police Department teamed up in March 2014 to study the results of 46 officers who were equipped with body cameras and 43 officers who did not wear the device.

In a recent move, Ohio's state law enforcement board announced standards for the use of deadly force by police. The mandate is the first of its kind in the state and a new concept for many other states as well. The new standards will limit the use for deadly force to defend either people from serious injury or death or officers in an extreme situation. When an employee of the Provo, Utah, school district mistakenly clicked on a phishing link in an email last year, the private data of about 500 employees were put at risk.
District officials personally went to every school and district department to meet with employees face to face and explain what occurred. The district also paid the bill for a year of credit monitoring for employees. Afterwards, the district altered its practices on sharing sensitive information to improve data security, and employees were retrained to better recognize suspicious links and other scams.
