First, the state agreed to rebuild the interchange on I-74 for easy access to and from the highway. The state paid for it out of the Major Moves fund created by the Indiana Toll Road’s 75-year lease.

The Southwest Indiana Regional Development Authority has completed a key step in the Regional Cities Initiative process. It is the first of three regional winners to sign a contract with the Indiana Economic Development Corp., which Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana Chief Executive Officer Greg Wathen says will allow efforts to go "full steam ahead." The RDA was created as part of the process that will open up the region to as much as $42 million in state matching funding for quality of life and talent attraction projects.

Commercial real estate (CRE) notched another year of growth in 2015, favored by continued macroeconomic growth and broadening capital markets, according to the Expectations & Market Realities in Real Estate 2016: Navigating through the Crosscurrents report, released by Deloitte, the National Association of REALTORS®, and Situs RERC. While global economies decelerated, leading to volatility in financial indices, U.S. gross domestic product rose, employment growth accelerated toward the tail end of the year, and housing prices reached new heights.

The Indianapolis-area office market thrived during the first quarter of 2016, notching five leases of more than 40,000 square feet. At the same time, the market saw seven capital markets transactions during the quarter, five of which were investments in office buildings in Indianapolis' Central Business District. This is the good news reported by JLL in its most recent Indianapolis-area office survey.

Indiana Secretary of Commerce Victor Smith will join officials from America Place for the groundbreaking of a new office park at River Ridge Commerce Center. The commercial real estate developer is in the middle of a $150 million expansion at the campus.
Smith will also be joined by officials from the city of Jeffersonville, One Southern Indiana and River Ridge.

For the last few years, the multifamily asset class has been the top performer of all property types, delivering a per-unit revenue (market rent x occupancy) growth rate of 4.8 percent in 2015. Some markets clearly outperformed others. These included Portland, Oregon; San Francisco; Oakland, California; and Sacramento, California, all of which saw per-unit revenue growth rates above 7.5 percent last year.
But there is much concern that developers have been adding too much inventory, flooding some markets with new supply. This will inevitably raise vacancy rates and exert downward pressure on rent growth.
