January Member Spotlight: Julianna Mathers
When did you realize that you wanted to become an interior designer?
My mother is a fine artist, seamstress and designer, and I grew up in aesthetic environments, fabric stores, and amidst renovations. My love for beautiful interiors was established at a young age. As a young woman, I worked in the corporate marketing world but loved decorating my tiny apartments and devouring shelter magazines, reading them cover to cover. As a young mom, I began working for an ASID architect and designer, and that's when I realized I wanted to combine my personal passion for interiors with my business experience and turn it into a vocation. My work started organically with friends asking for help with renovations and decorating. It grew from there.

Is spiritual home design the future? Experts say yes
The Zoe Report
Minimalism. Maximalism. Mid-century modern. Eclectic. Vintage. For too long, home design was often defined by these common terms. However, as humans increasingly seek ways to tap into their innermost authentic selves in their diets, self-care rituals and even fitness routines, there are more holistic, spiritual approaches being taken on living spaces as well.

No longer reserved for the patio, rattan furniture is ideal for any part of the home
Robb Report
Rattan isn't just for your front porch. A favorite of the Victorian era, over the years the plant-based furniture has become a staple of living rooms and kitchens, where its light, organic vibe brings a bit of the outside world in. Designers have gotten creative with it too — there's something tried-and-true about a rattan chair, but bar carts and consoles are new, unexpected territory. Here, a few of our favorites that will add some warmth to your space.

The Independent
Last year, we spent a lot more time in our homes than we planned to, thanks to the pandemic, but it made us realize that home is truly where the action happens. We sleep, eat, relax and now work in our homes, so they'd better be comfortable, set-up to suit our needs and be a reflection of our personalities.
